Economic sustainability of São Paulo citrus production

The economic sustainability of the São Paulo citrus production in the 2000s is evaluated by prices, costs and yield indicators. Fruit yield gains had an important role to sustain the orange production in that period. However, in the 2010s, the HLB (huanglongbing or greening) will limit the increase on yield and will boost the cost of orange production. The challenge in this decade is to minimize risks of production and to diversify the São Paulo citrus business.
